Dr. Seuss Week

The week flew by due to all the Dr. Seuss fun we had!  We produced more rhymes than Mother Goose by the week's end.

Monday we focused on Horton Hears a Who...

The message of the book was not easily received by the kids, but we discussed it until there was a general understanding that we should treat ALL people, "no matter how small," with kindness and respect.

We followed our discussion up with a super cute craft that we hung in the hallway.

Tuesday was Cat in the Hat day...

We read the book and did a sequencing activity by putting all of the book's events in order - from beginning to middle to end.

We also did a guided drawing of the Cat in the Hat.  I was so excited about how they each turned out.  The diversity among the drawings was awesome!

And of course we had to play the part of at least one character in the book - well, we just multiplied this character by 15!

Wednesday was spent reading and eating Green Eggs and Ham...

The class made predictions on whether or not they would like green eggs and ham.  Fourteen kids thought they would like it, while only one kid thought he wouldn't.

Everyone predicted their likes/dislikes correctly!

Afterwards, we wrote up our own little rhymes to make into a class book.

Thursday was devoted to the Lorax...

We did a little painting to bring out all the beautiful colors of the truffala trees - but first we had to get in the spirit of the Lorax himself.

Then we completed our beautiful watercolors...

On Friday, we wrapped up the week with a visit from Cat in the Hat himself!  He even served us lunch!

And we brought all of the Dr. Seuss characters to life in our DIY photobooth!  Don't the kids look great?!

We also took a few pics outside...

And thanks to Ayla's mom, Thing 1 and Thing 2 even made an appearance at our party!

Dr. Seuss week was lots of fun - it's hard to believe it's already all done!  I'm rhyming and don't even it know it :)
