Week 29

Thank you so much for those who attended the parent/teacher conferences I scheduled last week.  If there were any times that conflicted with your schedules and you would like to reschedule, please let me know.  I will be happy to meet with you any time.

We are currently planning the Festival of Hope, which will be held on Apr. 28th, 11am - 2 pm.  We really need volunteers to help with games, set up/clean up and other various duties.  If you are able to volunteer, please let me know so we can utilize you.  We are also auctioning off themed baskets at the festival.  Each classroom is responsible for organizing a basket - our theme is sports.  If you're able to donate a sports related item to include, we would GREATLY appreciate it!

Spring Break starts on Friday.  The kids will not return to school until April 16th.  I hope you all enjoy this time with your child/ren.  We will be ready to go full blast once they return - only 6 more weeks!!!

Congrats to Jonathan Galloway, our Student of the Week.  Jonathan is extremely active and LOVES P.E.  He works hard in the classroom and enjoys being engaged in classroom activities.

Week 28

I'm a little behind in getting my weekly update out - better late than never, I guess :)  I have all parent/teacher conferences scheduled for today (Wednesday), tomorrow and Friday.  I realize some of the times are not the exact ones you chose, but if there are any conflicts with your time, please let me know.  I will be happy to make myself available next week as well.

Spring break is quickly approaching - March 30th thru April 15th the kids will be out of school and will return Monday, the 16th.  That leaves 6 weeks until the end of the school year!!  We will be giving end-of-year DIBEL assessments towards the middle of May so stay tuned for updates.

Shayla Lacey is our Student of The Week.  She is one of 10 siblings, 3 of which attend our school.  She and her brothers are very close.  She enjoys drawing and playing with her friends on the playground!

Week 27

I hope everyone had a relaxing, fun weekend and was able to adjust to losing a precious hour of sleep.  It stung a little for me, I must admit.

The kids are learning how to read music and how to then play the notes on a recorder.  In order to have a recorder in class, it must be purchased for $5.  Many of you have already sent in your money, but for those who haven't, this is just a reminder.  If you are not able to bring the money in, please let me know so I can make other arrangements for your child.  We want to make sure every child is able to participate.

Other classes will be "green" with envy when they hear about our St. Patrick's Day activities we have planned for Friday.  Even though the kids are expected to wear their uniforms, they are free to wear green in a more subtle way - socks, hair bows, jewelry, green undershirt, etc.  As always, if you have any ideas to celebrate the luck of the Irish, please let me know.

Congratulations, Casey Soisson, this week's Student of the Week.  Casey LOVES cars and racing outside at recess.  He has formed an interest for sharks and lions as we've studied different animals and their behaviors.  He has earned this honor with great behavior and awesome participation the last week.

Week 26

What better way to start off the week than knowing my Carolina Tar Heels are ACC Regular Season Champions!  Ahhh - it sure it is good to be a Tar Heel.  Ok, with that being said...

This Thursday is Muffins for Mom.  For those families that turned in tickets, muffins will be served beginning at 7:30.  You and your child are welcome to enjoy breakfast time together until class begins promptly at 8:00 am.  Thank you to those who signed up.

Our students are really enjoying their new extracurricular activities.  They will continue with jewelry making today, music on Wednesday and Friday and yoga on Thursday.  The diversity in their new daily schedule really seems to be appreciated by both students and staff.

I am in the beginning stages of putting together our spring field trip.  Please think about whether or not you would like to volunteer to be a chaperone or help out in any way.  We are shooting for the beginning of May, so please keep that in mind as we draw closer.

India Wilkes is our Student of Week this week.  India loves the colors pink and purple and anything having to do with princesses.  She is such a wonderful leader in our class.  Congratulations, India!!
