Butterfly Release
After three weeks of observation and a lot of patience, we finally witnessed the full butterfly life cycle (with the exception of the egg). We watched as five tiny caterpillars ate for about 10 days until they could eat no more, resulting in five FAT caterpillars that shed their skin in preparation for their chrysalis. Once in the chrysalis, we watched as it changed colors - green to dark green to black. Finally, after about 10 more days, the beautiful painted ladies emerged.
Today, we set them free...

A Little Tune for President's Day
During my intro lesson on President's Day today, we read a book about George Washington. I mentioned to the kids that during his Presidency, George Washington was quoted as saying "... I cannot tell a lie." The kids were confused by this statement - they all had a perplexed look on their face, as though they were thinking why in the world can't he tell a lie?
I instantly remembered a song I learned when I was little about George Washington. My dad used to reference the song when the topic of lying would come up in my house. I quickly taught it to the kids and they LOVED IT. They were singing it all the way down the hallway during dismissal. But most importantly, they now understand why George Washington could never tell a lie.

100th Day of School
Simply put - we had a BLAST on the 100th day! We had so much fun...the kids didn't even know they were still learning.
Starting the day...
We continued the morning with 100th Day rotations in the classroom...
After lunch we exercised...
We also made 100 gumball machines that we shared with the first graders...
We definitely felt 100 days smarter after our action packed day - but man it flew by from all the fun we had!
As our necklaces stated - "We survived 100 days of kindergarten!"

Beautiful Voices
I approached the door to the music room to pick my students up and was greeted with their beautiful voices. They were practicing their vocal exercises they learned for the day.

Giving Thanks
Mrs. Stinnett's Pilgrims and Ms. Neuman's Indians sat down together as friends this afternoon and shared a little Thanksgiving snack of popcorn mixed with other tasty treats. We discussed the things that we are thankful for which I thought I would share with all of you.
